Description:

Well, your first year of WALC is almost over and now it is time to reflect and think about what you have learned. What were the most important lessons, experiences, readings, concepts, and places for you? When all is said and done, what will you take from all that we have learned and done this year? How have you grown and changed? These are the questions we would like you to consider for your final paper. This essay will be ten-pages long and it should be organized according to the themes we have followed this year. The same themes we have used all year to help organize and focus your learning will be the same themes that will organize and focus your final paper. For the fall semester our themes were Sense of Place and Balance and Imbalance. This spring we focused on Interconnections and Diversity. Your job is to write a ten-page paper on what you have learned about these different concepts from each of your WALC classes. You must also think about and write about how these concepts apply to you. How have your experiences in WALC affected your sense of place, your own balance, your own sense of interconnectedness, and your own ideas about diversity?

Your WALC teachers are giving you this final paper instead of a big final exam because we believe that our students should be able to simply show and tell us what they have learned. To us it is an alternative way other than testing and final exams to assess your performance and learning. Basically we are just asking you too tell us honestly what you have learned. From the initial review and brainstorming, it looks like all of you will be able to produce both quality and quantity. Good luck! 10 pages, typed, 12-point font, and double-spaced please.
